De ander

THE WIFE

I know two woman

and the one

is tangible substance,

flesh and bone.

The other in my mind

occurs.

She keeps her strict

proportion there.

But how should I

propose to live

with two such creatures

in my bed -

or how shall he

who has a wife

yield two to one

and watch the other die.

Conosco due donne
e una
è di materia tangibile,
carne e ossa.

L'altra esiste nella mia
mente.
Lí tiene la parte che
le spetta.

Ma come potrei
suggerire di vivere
con due simili creature
nel mio letto -

o come potrebbe chi
ha una moglie
cederne due per una
e veder morire l'altra.
